I've finished the main quest in Skyrim, and I must say the last boss fight for that questline was... underwhelming. Maybe because my Dovahkiin was past level 50 at that point and could cast Fireballs without any cost. Still, I love the game.

I'm playing on the PS3 (don't have a decent gaming PC), and have more than 150 hours of gameplay, but I have yet to see a floating mammoth. Though I do have 2 1/2 Louis Letrushes running around, and whenever I cast Detect Life while sneaking, I would glide on the floor.

It's my first Elder Scrolls game, and the first open-world game that I spent a lot of time on. Vice City and GTAIV don't count since my experience with Vice City was driving around for a short while and watching my sisters play. Same with GTAIV, with the added bonus of playing QUB3D to get the trophy for my sister, lol. We've got ACII (probably next year; DW8's my next game after Skyrim) and while I finished the first Assassin's Creed, there wasn't much left to do after the main quest ended so it wasn't as open-world as I liked.

I chose a Breton because of magic resistance, and while my character is named after a mage in the Malazan books, I carried a sword since I couldn't aim my spells well, and later on brought a shield since the damn Dwemer Sphere Guardians kept ganging up on me and ignoring the Dremora lord. My male Dovahkiin married Marcurio, primarily because the first time I took him on a mission, he pretty much cleared the dungeon by himself (and I killed only two bandits, how pathetic is that?). Though Lydia and Benor are dear to me, too.

The part I had most fun with in Skyrim is... uh, smithing and enchanting. And then selling the crafted items to merchants (naturally that involves a lot of waiting and fast-traveling). Then doing more miscellaneous quests. When the file size got too large, I decided to stop wandering around and complete quests that aren't in the miscellaneous tab. I also enjoy using Fus Ro Dah and the Clear Skies shout.

I don't have that much interest in the Civil War questline; I think both sides are douchebags. Although I still regret trading Markarth for Riften, since both the new Jarls are assholes.

That's it for now. Since I don't have DW8 yet, I'm just going to roam around Skyrim, looking for a floating mammoth...

(Yu Jin has been added to DW8XL's roster! Old news is old, but the Wei 5 are finally complete. KOEI, please, give us a cutscene with all five of them. And I'd rather Yu Jin be a father-to-his-men type of guy, 'cause that can be a good motivation for his surrender at Fan. Chen Gong's playable now, too, and if they keep and/or improve on the interaction he had with Lu Bu in DW6, I will be a happier fangirl.)

I shouldn't be surprised that there is a porny Malazan fanart in Tumblr. But I was. And more, it's of Quick Ben and Kalam. I really don't know what to think. On one hand I ship them HARD and I was happy to find someone else ships them, on the other I cringe at the idea of QB porn. Because it's Quick Ben, dammit.

I was just searching for 'Bridgeburner Malazan' in Google. Why is there porn... oh wait, I forgot it's the Internet.

I'm very excited for Ian C. Esslemont's upcoming Assail book. ICE's books are pretty divisive in the fandom. For my part, I enjoy reading his books, whatever the flaws, because, among other things, 1) ICE writes very good battle scenes; 2) he can write very funny scenes too; 3) he made Nait/Sergeant Jumpy, and I enjoyed Suth's scenes; and 4) it's Malazan. I love Malazan.

Still awaiting my copy of Blood and Bone.

This article here surprised me. I know, I know, but she does bring up a point in Timmy being the stoic captain (or authority figure, whatever) with a tragic past, something I see a lot in anime/manga. I hope no one would write fic about him.

1-0, for now; here's hoping they get their fifth championship...

So I finished Ao no Exorcist a few days ago and only now got the inclination to post about it.

To start off, the main protagonist, Okumura Rin, seems like the typical shounen hero: boisterous, gets into fights, doesn't listen to warnings, etc. And he's good at cooking. His younger twin, Yukio, is the opposite: too srs, is careful, keeps secrets, etc.

I liked the whole thing. Though the premise kind of disturbed me at first (I'm a Catholic, so that has an influence), I realized that Ao no Exorcist treated the whole devil thing in a different way than the Bible does, so I came to enjoy it. Seriously, you got people chanting, summoners, transmutation circles (or so it looked to me), someone voiced by Okiayu Ryotarou, and action. There's some fanservice, too, and sometimes I wish Shura just covered herself because her clothes are awful, but I can't say no to a nekkid!Yukio.

Cut for some spoilers. I should really use the spoiler link.Collapse )

Ao no Exorcist also has one of the funniest moments (IMO) that I saw in anime: that damn birthday cake scene. I loled so hard at that. Those dorky Okumura twins...

The pace sped up midway through, though it was pretty relaxed at the start. Huh. I guess that was the plot really taking off.

Overall, it was a fun watch.

And I LOVED it. So much that I'm reading the light novel translations over at Baka-Tsuki.

A bit of background: I saw a couple of episodes dubbed in Tagalog a few years ago, was interested in Ryuuji, but did not seek it out because duh it was a romantic anime and I wasn't interested. Then my little sister asked for romantic anime recs, and I recced that one, and decided to watch it with her.

I'm glad I did. I've watched only a few romantic anime, and this one takes the cake, and maybe I'm not qualified to say how brilliant it is, but whatever.

The charactersCollapse )

Ryuuji's chemistry with Taiga is undeniable, in my opinion. They do things so casually together that they don't even realize what their real feelings are. Oh dear, I just showed how unfamiliar I am with romantic anime. Oh well...

Each of the five friends are well-rounded; they have character flaws, not quirks. The supporting cast is also good. There is little flanderization and just enough fanservice. It doesn't rely on the kilig factor, instead choosing to explore the relationship between the friends more and showing them growing up. And though the main pairing has already been decided from the start, their situation just made me more interested in following their story to the conclusion. Well done.

... I think I just did a review of sorts.

It's my first time to participate, and I've reached 50k already. I'm happy.
I plan to finish the story, then leave it for some time, then edit it.

Damn LJ posted my other ranty draft, so I reposted this.

I got bored one day and went through my old writings. I cringed a lot, went WTF countless times, and discovered I wrote some poems.

These are pretty short ones, and written when I was still a freshman in the University of the Philippines Mindanao...yeah. So if you have time, and you're interested, can you look at them, maybe provide some critique?
